History

Thomas B. Cooper was appointed postmaster in 1908, covering grounds in the Socastee area. Mail was distributed from the T.B. Cooper Store (The General Store) right next door to The Cooper House we know and love today.

The Cooper House was built by Robert M. Prince Sr. The Thomas B. Cooper House had a two tiered and turned bolstered front porch which also included five bays. The front portion of the house is two stories with one room deep and a pediment gable roof.

The exterior is weather-board sided with 2 x 2 double-hung sash windows and wooden plank shutters. Since the original construction, modifications in 1935 were made including an enclosed rear porch and restoration of the stairs.
